Art is now a born again Christian.  This was not always the case. Although having been raised by a devout Christian mother, Art drifted away from God and for several years lived a life of sin, a fact, of which, Art is not particularly proud.  During these years away from God, Art divorced is wife Joy and in 1984, married Jan Shoemake from Lenoir, NC.  Now happily married, Art rededicated his life to God and has been active in his church, Rumple Memorial Presbyterian, in Blowing Rock, NC, where he and Jan have lived since 1995.

For those of you that know Norman Lear as a TV Producer, you may not be aware of his years of service of promoting American’s rights and getting the youth to vote. He even bought one of the original versions of the Declaration of Independence and put it on tour to schools around the country. His newest venture was to once again make people feel good about being an American, with high hopes for the new administration. He put the idea together for this new American song called, “I’m a Born Again American”. It is being shown for the first time on PBS and being officially introduced to the public & press this weekend at an Inaugural Event.
